New Year's Resolutions

2009 is about getting back into my old routines; going to the gym, eating right, working hard, playing hard and once again blogging. (rousing cheers for the return of TSG!)

So yesterday morning I finally managed to get up for the gym. I got up before 6am, packed my bags made a lunch and and headed off to the gym. When I got there and started getting ready I realized I had forgotten my my runners. Who forgets their runners!

Not a great start to getting back to the gym but not a bad little story to start be back into blogging.

I am experiencing it.

Sorry gang.

But hey this is post number 301. That is kind of exciting.

That's all I got.

My Paranoia

I started this blog over a year ago and a few times over that year I have been told that people I know read the blog. That is fine most of the time until you are in a social situation and someone you know brings up the waxing and then you question sharing your intimate moments with friends and strangers.

Right now I know most of my readers wither personally or through their own blogs. Thanks to my handy dandy site meter I know where you all come and when you are reading and when you are commenting. But lately, there have been some new folks stopping by (which I love, I really do) but it makes me nervous that the wrong people might end up finding the site.

(Somewhere on the other side of the Country The Lady has just rolled her eyes and said “duh? And I told you so” to her computer screen.)

Why am I telling you … well someday, I may have to change this site, make it private, or delete it all together, because, I realize anonymity doesn’t last forever, but I am still trying.

So please if you see me and you think you know this is my blog … pretend you don’t … if not for me then for the sake of the blog.

Thanks,

This is a TSG Newsflash

The Single Girl is experiencing higher than normal levels of stress at work and home right now and is unable to commit any time to her bloggerly duties. When asked to comment on the situation TSG said “Can’t talk working.”

We will keep you posted as this story develops.

Tuesday

A lot of stories and very little time

Here is the problem with keeping the dream alive, sometimes you have too many adventures in one weekend and no time to write about them. I am hoping the day is slow at work so I can at least draft the story of the bush party from Friday night, or maybe I will put them out of order and tell the tale of my Sunday night dinner party. We will have to see which story inspires me more. So please hold tight, good stories are on their way.

Living Online

There something to be said for not having a personal website, or blog, or facebook, or myspace or even email. Being connected and available to the world is great is some ways but it also has its drawbacks. Recent incidences have made me think about my “connections”, if I should keep them all and how I use them.

Starting a pseudo anonymous website is a bit of a fallacy really. Nothing is truly anonymous. It doesn’t take much snooping around this site to figure out who I am (if you know me). I have known that all along, especially since The Lady likes to point it out to me about once a week.

I created this site for a few close friends back home back in the fall when encouraged by SnH to share my stories. So I did and I sent out the web address to about a dozen people, who then sent it out to a few people or linked it to their site, and so on and so forth my thoughts spread like a disease across the internet. As time wore on I thought about actually telling more people that I know about the site but thought – and still think – no, I don’t want everyone to have total access to my selective private thoughts. Other times over the past ten months I have been informed that different people I know are reading this site and I have then thought - and still do – about deleting the entire blog, or making it an invite only site for my friends to keep up with my high jinx. Ego often got (and still gets) in the way of that thought. Friends and friends of friends would report back that they liked both the writing style and the stories being told. How could I stop? People were enjoying my writing and my stories and I was enjoying writing.

But it doesn’t end with this site, my facebook connection obsession needs to be examined as well. It is a piece of my life that makes me feel a little like a stalker and like I am being stalked. While it is true that the SSM and I never would have begun chatting, then poking, then messengering, and ultimately dating if I wasn’t on facebook, creepying around his page and reading who he is chatting and flirting with without proper context isn’t fair or healthy. Things are fine when we are together and having a conversation about other girls/boys, flirting and other such things, because there is context and we can discuss things. Reading his (and other peoples) status updates, wall posts, super pokes or notes can leave me with strange relationship questions that I don’t ask because they have no real context in life and it makes trouble where there is none. I equate it to snooping through his drawers or computer files, which is really unhealthy, unwise and an extreme invasion of privacy. If there is something I want to know, I should just ask.

The other side of that coin is being found. Over the past few weeks I have been found and contacted by people that I never thought I would see again and others that I never wanted to see again. Six months ago none of these people would have any idea how to find me because there was no easy search for me like there is today. Now I have to deal with people I shut out of my life a long time ago. Sure I can decline, block and ignore but is still opens little doors and windows in my mind that I closed off.

Ultimately I don’t think I will leave facebook or delete my blog today but consider this your warning readers. Someday soon this single girl may just vanish in the night.

Bring on the Strippers!

So today after the intern interviews – which weren’t that interesting, bartender, fine, good interview, whatever – I was emailing with Awesome and we decided to go for lunch and walk in the sunshine. We met at my work and we wandered the streets for a bit and he said he wanted to tell me something that started with when I date girls … And I thought oh no, here we go again this man thinks I want a relationship or that he regrets the fact that we fooled around again. I thought we were past all this. Well I was wrong, he wasn’t referring to us at he was preparing to tell me some of the story of his stripper ex-girlfriend and how she has recently gotten back in touch with him and the drama surrounding that.

When I got back to the office he sent me a picture of her. Yep that is definitely a stripper I thought. Oh dear lord, I was dating a man who was dating a stripper, a stripper who cheated on him and left him and made him incapable of commitment and intimacy. I wish I could post the picture because it is just such a quintessential stripper picture, but alas, I can not.

As Awesome and I enter into this new realm of friendship and sharing I am beginning to wonder if things were better when he was ignoring me for weeks at a time and telling me nothing about himself. On second thought this is better. Now I have lots of knowledge and information that will keep me from repeating the mistakes of the past, or at least that is the dream we are keeping alive this week.

Ps. A great big welcome back to The Company Bitch. We all missed you CB.

Pss. There SnH and JJ… two posts in one day … beat that!

Blocked by the banality of it all

I have now started 4 different blog posts and trashed them all. I began with a story about counseling our intern through her first hangover and worrying that my biggest contribution to the world might be my ability to drink or my ability to quell a hangover. Then I started another one about the fact that after three straight days I am officially sick of beer and nachos (well the nacho part at least) and that the world rebalanced itself on the forth day with a work event featuring free wine and high end nibblies. The third time I opened my word document full of blog entries I was thinking about – but never started – a post about examining my past only to realize I have always been happier when I have a bunch of boys orbiting around me rather than just one monogamous relationship and maybe I should more seriously look at polyamory as a lifestyle choice. And finally I was going to write a post entitled I my heart (with graphic that I can't make work right now) job but I realized all I really wanted to do was create an I heart ____ title for a post so I dropped it. Now I am writing about writing and as [redacted] noted last week that apparently taboo. Oh well this is what your getting today so deal gang.

It all will get more interesting. It all will get more interesting. It all will get more interesting. It all will get more interesting. (Chant it with me and it might come true)

I am searching ...

For something witty or interesting to post but so far today I haven’t come up with much. Maybe because after a great vacation with GB I had to work a twelve hour day for my first day back, or because I am so tired from being out until 2am last night with the original archetype (new name for Mr. McA) telling stories and getting caught up after 15 years or maybe it is my new addiction to facebook.

Whatever it is, I think it is going to take me a few days to get back into the swing of things and back to the regular posting.

Thanks for your patience; we will soon return you to our regularly scheduled program.

My Favourite referrals

So imagine, if you will, sitting down at your computer going to google and searching for the following:

  • Kinky Old Women
  • Keep the wet dream alive
  • NHL boys bathrobes
  • Hail Caesar Code
  • What is Biological Destiny

Instead of finding dirty pictures, lounge wear, drink recipes or an answer to your question you find yourself here. Are you disappointed? I hope not … but I think you probably are – especially if you were searching for one of the first two.

And if you are here because you just did a search for sorority pillow fights or forbidden circus love, sorry you need to go to the next blog.

Tuesday

These are the blog topics I have been thinking about today…

… but I can’t actually commit to any of them

Hygiene …
I had a meeting with a college student earlier. This kid had bad facial hair, no sense of style and the worst breath I think I have ever smelled. Seriously, I was sitting 10 feet from the kid and it was all I could do not to wince when he spoke. How does bad breath like this happen? …

Men …
Do men really think that women sit around all day waiting for them to call or email? Do they not realize if they are hooking up with other women, that we are most likely hooking up with other guys? …

How to choose your next date …
I have been toying with internet dating, only because a few people have told me I should, but I have to say the thought terrifies me …

Heroes …
Has anyone out there seen this show? It is great. I love it … I know I am like 6 months behind the TV trend setters but I have had a busy fall …

Hook ups …
I know I made a new year’s resolution to stay away from the hook ups and try for the first time in years to forge a meaningful (or even settle for semi meaningful) relationship, but my resolve is crumbling …

I will expand on any topic they are of interest to anyone (except for the Heroes one I don't think I need to say anything else). Or I can ditch them all at this point and move forward with other interesting things, like the time I almost fell to my death, how I quit smoking, or the story that started the blog.

If I hear nothing you will get nothing or mundane ramblings about how work is about to take over my life for four weeks.

Changes

So as you can see I decided to make a few changes to the blog.

I finally crumbed under the pressure and moved to the new blogger. The funniest thing is that there were about a dozen comments that had not made it onto the site yet, so they are all there now. And to Friend of a friend who commented on cooking the Gayboyfriend - very witty. I have spent my free time this weekend (i.e. the time I wasn't drinking with GB) getting everything changed, updating the links, adding a profile - so people can email the single girl if they are so inclined and don't know me in real life - reinstalling the site meter, etc. etc.

So I hope you enjoy the new look, I do. I mean it is still just one of the blogger templates but I am pretty happy with it.

Now that I have wasted most of my waking hours on this it is time to get some real work accomplished, or maybe I will just have a nap.

My Newest Obsession

Has anyone noticed that I am not writing as much as I sometimes do? Well there are a few reasons for this. The first and foremost I have been really busy at work all week and it has been hard to find the time to sit down and compose a post about anything. The second reason is I have recently installed site meter onto the blog – go ahead take a moment to scroll down to the bottom – you know you want to.

Since getting site meter I have been completely obsessed with who is visiting, when they are reading, how long they are staying and how they found my site. What are the interesting things I have discovered? Well, currently my number one referral site is Live: From My Living Room (thanks for the traffic Rob!), there are readers coming from the US (Hi Michelle, thanks for the link and the comment a few weeks ago), and last week the most popular entry was The Dawson Creek years. Apparently people like drunk stories about SnH and I (I have hundreds if you are interested) or people were actually looking for info about Dawson’s Creek and ended up at my site (much more likely.) I find all of this stuff fascinating and it has caused me to write less and read more. The novelty is going to wear off and I will get back to the usual stories about life and my adventures soon.

Hope you all have a good weekend where ever you may be. Me, I have to work late tonight then off to a party and tomorrow work during the day, then a soiree in the evening. Hopefully something fun or funny will come out of that. And if nothing else I will be spending a fair amount of time with GB, so I am hoping that will produce a new overheard in my living room post soon – because I know you all miss them as much as I do.

Monday

Blah

So there I was sitting at my desk, in my personal productivity pod (yep, that is what they call a cubicle at my work) thinking about all the things I need to get done. Funnily enough most of the things I am thinking about have nothing to do with the giant piles of paper on my desk. I kept thinking about things like the doing laundry, calling friends, drinking tea, reading blogs … you know the important stuff.

I still am not in a bloggy kind of place, which apparently isn’t a problem since almost no one is visiting my site this month. Even so, I want to figure out why I find myself in such a writing funk so often this January. Partly it could be I have no new good stories to share, truly I think we all could agree that I have been pretty boring since the holidays (I wouldn’t read me either right now). It could also in part be my New Year’s resolution to restrain myself from casual relations and relationship, or the fact that it is the busy season at work and I just don’t feel like going out much in the evenings or that I have just come down with a case of the February blahs a month early (it could happen). The strange thing is I keep having inspiration to write essay style blogs on different topics at times when I don’t have a pen or paper and then minutes later the topic is gone.

So please be patient, I will write funny, musing or meaningful things and/or be interesting really soon.

The Blog

I had such an array of blog topics while sitting at work today but now they have all disappeared … except for this one … (how is that for an opener)

On the topic of blogging I recently came to find out that my readership is larger than I thought it was and that it includes friends of the family – i.e. my parents friends. The lady told me this last night in a way that can only be described as an attempt to make me curb the content of the site or embarrass me. In the moment it freaked me out a little so I went back and read all my entries today while doing other work at work – I am a multi tasking Queen!

After reading my entries I came to a few conclusions:

    1. Even when I employ spell check and reread all entries before I post there are
still some atrocious spelling and grammatical errors. I mean seriously, how do you people read this blog without cringing?
    2. There is nothing in this blog that I am ashamed of. I read it andthought would I show this to my father? The answer yes. I mean in conversation I wouldn’t necessarily give him all the detail in some of the entries but he is a good humoured man who loves a good story so I think he would appreciate it. Bear in mind I would not want to be sitting beside him while he read, then again I don’t like to be beside anyone reading my blog (see conclusion #1).
    3. I would tell any of my friends all of these stories (and more). Many of them live far away it has become a great way to keep in touch. And, believe it or not I don’t document everything that I do. Some things are not available for public consumption – even on this is a pseudo anonymous blog.
    4. As OQB said, this blog documents my love of drinking and a good party more than anything else.
    5. Finally the next time I create an anonomous blog, I may not tell the lady, as it appears she can’t keep a secret for shit.

So do not worry faithful readers, even though everyday more people are reading this little blog of my life I will continue to entertain you with tales of road trips, random musings, boys, bad dates, drunken evenings and strippers.

Opps … if you want to hear the story of how I ended up getting our picture taken with a stripper while drinking with 100 Santas you will have to ask me in person … it will not make the blog.

Yours, as always

Saturday

Saturday

Has anyone else out there in cyberland noticed that very few people blog on Saturdays? It is as though blogging is like a job or school and no one wants to put in any extra time on the sacred day off meant for catching up on correspondence, partying, cleaning or just sitting around and doing nothing.

When I get up on Saturday mornings I sit down at my computer to read about peoples lives in the same way I read the paper I am often disappointed. I go to Life on the Roof, [redacted] , Brutal Honesty or Jill Murray and no one is there to amuse me.

I am no better. I rarely blog on a Saturday as I am often to busy or too tired to write anything, but this morning as I was lying in bed reading David Sedaris I thought to myself I love reading about other people on a Saturday morning I wish my bloggers could satisfy the way Sedaris’ family does …

So this is my plea, once the holidays are over everyone – including me – should try to write the occasional Saturday post for themselves, friends and anonymous readers.

Now I have to go out and face the Holiday shopping madness and finish my holiday shopping. Tonight Kinky Kristmas … that should bring an interesting post or two.

Happy Saturday

Wednesday

I suck

I have been sick for 12 days now – well actually 2 full weeks if you count the days I was pretending not to be sick and taking cold FX. So this morning I was so exhausted and sick that I didn’t remember to open my advent present! How lame am I?

I am now sitting at my desk flying on daytime cold medication – it is like speed, actually it is partially speed – wondering what is in my little manila envelop and running through my bad day.

How bad was my day? I have made two people cry in meetings, everything I have touched has gone bad or gotten lost and I can’t see my desk for all the paper scattered all over it. I am suppose to go to Karaoke tonight but I am a little worried about the effects of combining cold medication and beer. I could just have water … yeah that sounds like me …

Wish me luck and some will power.

The Single Girl

ps. Any bloggers out there updated to the new blogger? How is the transition? I am a little afraid to make the change. Send me your thoughts.

Friday

A little bit like crack really …

I have favourite blogs that I go to EVERYDAY to see if there is anything new with any of my friends and web friends that don’t know I exist- yet. Sometimes I find there is no new post on the half dozen sites I hit regularly so I have started to look at the blogs that my favourite bloggers have recommend and it is soooooo addictive. The Company Bitch recently recommended a site and I am now about as obsessed with him as she is, and the more blogs you go to the greater number of blogs that you become aware of. It is a vicious cycle.

Must get my fix …

Saturday

How did you spend your Saturday Night?

I am sitting in my living room with a seam ripper in my hand ripping seams on pants in order to hem them. I hope you are doing something at least slightly more exciting. I have to be honest here Saturday night is often the most boring night of my week. I spend many nights out on any given week, but if I really looked at my day book I bet I would find in the last 2 years I have been out on a Tuesday or Wednesday three times more often than I am on a Saturday. Why is that?

I have found the most wonderful website though because of my Saturday night at home http://ynr.blogthings.com/. So far I have discovered that I am a fun girl (according to the are you a party girl quiz) and if I was a pair of boots I would be a sexy pair of black boots. I am now going to find out who my celebrity twin is, even though I already know it is Drew Barrymore, I wonder if that is who the internet will match me up with. For those of you that use to hit up spark notes for you internet quizzes, these are not nearly as good but a fun time none the less.

Here’s hoping you all are a sexy pair of boots!
