Lather, Rinse, Repeat

This weekend was similar to last weekend, get up, go to work, attend event, go to bar, sleep, repeat. Except on Saturday between the event and the bar I was invited by the poker ladies to join them for an impromptu game of poker in a hotel suite downtown. Turns out a friend of the poker crowd was in town doing some work and had a suite so they decided what better place to play poker!

It was excellent, there were only five of us so in addition to playing we were getting tutorials on how much to bet, hands to play depending on your position and how to read other players. I felt like a high roller invited to hotel room for the big game with the old time players. I managed to hold on until the final three and unlike everyone else I played on my original $20.00 the whole time. At the end of the night they invited me to come and play with them at the cash games at the casino sometime. I was vaguely tempted but it is a bit of an expensive habit and given my already expensive bar habit I probably can’t afford both at this time. I also noted that the women, who play poker regularly, don’t drink so they are safe with their one vice.

Once finished it was back to the bar, for some much needed beer and good conversation, much like the night before, and Wednesday night (beer habit, very very expensive these days). Oh I forgot to mention, I did spend some of my Friday night with the bartender of my dreams. He and GB and I did a little drinking with some other work folks and after a few hours I have decided that he probably isn’t for me (nor I for him) but that is okay I still enjoyed the beer and good conversation.

Sunday was a bit of a different day (i.e. I didn’t drink). But I did shop! I bought a belt and GB bought a belt buckle and we went into what I can only describe and the most boring sex shop ever. It was like a Staples and a blockbuster combined. Clean white floors and white walls, neatly displayed inventory … but no heart. It was kinda sad really, I like a little character in my porn shops. It is no fun if you don’t feel a little naughty or at least feel something while you are there. There should be brightly colored walls, or rich carpeting or overly friendly staff talking to you to let you know that it is okay there is nothing dirty or wrong about being here, or buying anything. Sadly this had none of that so we left without much hoopla.

This week again brings days of work, drink, sleep repeat – beginning with a dinner party tonight and ending with two large events for work this weekend and the bar.

Friday

I think I may be in trouble

I am a competitive person … a very competitive person. So when Awesome called to ask if I would go downhill skiing on Sunday - after his christmas party - I, of course, said yes. I mean I have skied before and I only broke my arm the one time so I thought yeah, sure, why not I really should ski in the mountains once in my life. I mean who knows how long I will live out here… what better time than now?

I have just been to the resort website and I am now terrified of everything, including the chairlift. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have this driving force (also called competitiveness and stubbornness) driving me not only to ski, but to potentially keep up with Awesome and his work friends. All of whom probably came out of the womb on skis.

If you don’t hear from me for a while it is because I have seriously injured myself and can not longer type. maybe I iwll get lucky and we will be too hungover on Sunday to even think of strapping on skis. It is never going to happen ... I am going to be fine ... I am going to be fine.

In much happier news I had my monthly poker game last night and I came in Second! What does that mean you ask? Well I won $110.00 which will cover the cost of breaking my own legs (otherwise known as downhill skiing). I am going to be fine ... I am going to be fine.

Happy Friday All! I hope to be back next week.

The Single Girl

Saturday

So I was going to write about poker (which I didn’t win) and the techno night but something more important has come up.

As a single girl I have from time to time had to screen calls from dates I am no longer interested in seeing again, but don’t know how to gently say to them you are boring and a bad kisser so please go away.

Over the summer I used the screen to dissuade a boy who we will and have called "dumber" from trying to see me anymore and I really thought it had worked, but yesterday I got an email from dumber telling me he was sorry he was so busy over the summer and hoped we could get back in touch.

Really how dumb is dumber …. When I leave 2 messages for a guy I have been out with and get no return calls, I know I have been screened and move on. Why doesn’t he get this?

I have learned something very important from this experience. Never give out your email address until after the third date – minimum.

Thursday

Poker ladies

So tonight I am off to a texas hold'em game just for women. Twenty dollar buy in and top three take home money. I came in second last time and went home with sixty dollars. I am hopeful that I will win some money tonight or I will be unable to buy drinks later on when I go to watch a new DJ night a friend of mine has started.

I guess if I lose I could bluff my way to a few drinks at the bar.

Wish me luck at both the cards and the drinks.
