Party, Party, After Party

On Saturday night I had a choice of four different parties to attend. Sure it might sound a bit excessive but somehow it seems appropriate for summer time.

We (Roomie, Straight Gay Boyfriend and I) headed off to the first party around. It was great, a birthday party with burgers, cake, hula hooping and a surfing motif. I was there for about four hours, the other two party goers each took off for a bit to other parties, but I thought, no two parties would be enough for me. Besides I was just getting the hang of the hula hoop.

Around 9pm Roomie came back to pick me up and we headed home to drop off the car and go to the next party ( #2 for me and #3 for her). We rounded up SGB (also party #3 for him) and headed over to a huge gathering with DJs, fire spinners, drag queens and lip sinkers. There were over a hundred people, quite a site to see in my little neighbourhood. You may or man not remember that I vaguely mentioned this party in a post last summer http://thoughtsofasinglegirl.blogspot.com/2008/07/bad-blogger-very-bad-blogger.html where I was drunk in a hammock chair and made out with a guy that I can’t really remember, yeah, I am allllll class. Anyway the party was huge, Awesome joined our gang around 10:30pm – he too was party hoping, and I ran into the Grocer and other random neighbour hood friends. I even met a new boy.

I was wandering from the fire pit, through the dance floor towards the chill space, where my beer was, and I almost ran into a plastic saber worn by a cute boy. Having a flirtatious moment I told him he should put a sheath on that thing and he apologized and told me it was at home with a different pair of pants. So we chatted and flirted for a bit and then he said he had to go for a bit but would I hold his sword. Why not I thought, and so I carried it for a bit and then hid it in a tree. Around midnight the cops came to the property … something about noise by laws … so the party was forced to break up. I gave sword man back his saber and invited him back to our place, where apparently “two or three people” we coming by. Sadly sword man had a different after party to go to (there were apparently three or four that formed after the cops broke up the good time) so I gave him my number and we parted ways.

When Awesome and I arrived in the back yard there was a after party happening with a fire, booze and about 30 – 40 people. Having been up since 6:30am I can’t really claim to have taken full advantage of the after party opportunity. By around 2:30 I was done for the evening and headed off to bed. According to SGB the last of the partiers left the back yard a little after 5am. Glad I didn’t try to keep up until 5am but not bad for a Saturday night.

Not bad at all.

Awesome Farewell

On Friday I went out to Awesome’s farewell party. It was by all accounts an awesome affair.

We began at a martini bar trying some of the over 140 martinis available. There were about 12 or 14 of us, including Roomie, Awesome’s best friend and the newest member of my local circle of friends, a recent ex pat from the centre of the universe who likes to party – her nickname pending. She roomie and I were the only girls in this group of well wishers and that suited us just fine. I mean really, when do three women have the full attention of 8 – 10 boys around the age of 25. Not often enough I say. As the sun began to set we decided we wanted to go dancing, but first to a hotel bar … the very hotel Awesome and I once stayed in. But first we needed the bill.

I had arrived at about 6pm and it was now around 10pm, I had enjoyed two martinis and I was on my third or forth pint. Everyone else was in the same shape and most of us had also ordered food while we were there. I was a bit terrified to see this giant bill but thought, it is my last night to party with Awesome so if it costs me a bit of coin, so be it. The bill hit the table in your standard issue black padded envelop and I decided I would pick it up – as I really wanted to figure out if this was in fact my third or forth pint of the night. I opened it and to my surprise it read $0.00. Had the waitress made a mistake? Nope, one of the lovely you men at our table had very generously picked up the entire tab. Wow.

We moved on to the hotel bar where everyone enjoyed a fancy cocktail. I mean, why not our wallets were padded more than any of us had anticipated, so we could afford a $15.00 martini. Along with the martinis came a shooter of some unknown description. Can’t say I liked it but no worries, I was feeling no pain at this point anyway. The martini on the other hand was a fabulous. A raspberry vodka thing with a basil leaf in it. Mm mm good. At some point at the second bar I noticed the ex pat and Awesome doing some flirting. It probably started earlier, but I was enamored with a geeky cute programmer and couldn’t be bothered with anyone else’s flirtations.

As people started making noises about getting into the dance club I made my way over to ex pat and asked her if she was interested in Awesome. She very quickly said she wouldn’t, she knew who he is to me and wouldn’t want to come between he and I, and more importantly wouldn’t want him to come between her and I. “Really, do what you want. I have turned the man down like 100 times in the last 12 months. I don’t really have right to thwart his good time especially at his going away party.” She still didn’t seem entirely convinced but she went on flirting, as she should. We paid that bill after one round and headed to the club.

As soon as we were in the club I was told to order a round of shooters and a cocktail that Awesome would approve of. Alright seven liquid cocaines and seven rum and cokes please. Down went the shots and off we went with our drinks. I still can’t believe I was drinking rum and coke, I hate that stuff, but on with the story. Roomie, ex-pat and I started chatting with different folks and once again I assured her that a fling with Awesome was totally cool, and really it was his last night, she should go for it. About five minutes later ABF, Roomie and I looked across the bar to see ex-pat and Awesome making out. Like the mature folks we are we started hooting and hollering as though we were at a football game and once we were satisfied with ourselves we hit the dance floor.

Dancing was great and much smarter than pounding back any more shooters or cocktails I didn’t really enjoy. Although I vaguely remember drinking some of Roomie’s cider to quench my thirst later in the evening, ouch. At about 1:45 Roomie and I thought we had done all the damage we could possible do to our livers for one evening so we made our rounds and said our goodbyes. I hugged Awesome told him that I will miss him and then told him I loved him. He told me that he loved me too, I gave him a kiss and we headed out the door to find a cab. Drunk as we both were, I know we meant it. We do love each other and will miss all of our time together.

There is more to Awesome Farewell but it will have to wait as I am on holiday with the SSM right now so finding writing time is a bit challenging with all sex, eating, lounging and drinking we have to do.

Hope you all are having fun. Stay tuned for Awesome Farewell part two.

Let the Good Times Roll

Let me start by reassuring you all that I am fine. My trip to the hospital was a bit of a traumatic event, but now I am feeling pretty good – as long as I remember to take ibuprofen twice a day. I had a couple of calls and messages from people who were worried so I thought I would just reassure you all that TSG is still alive and kicking.

Now on with the stories …

This past weekend GB, Roomie, Awesome and I hit the town to attend a charity event that we managed to score free tickets to. The theme of the night was Sweet 70s and we all got dressed up. It was two floors of food, cheap martinis, dancing and a candy buffet. It was the fantasy everyone had as a kid, stick your hand in the jar and take as much as can fit in your pocket. We had candy sticks, rockets, tootsie rolls, pop rings, candy necklaces and coloured condoms (did I mention it was an AIDS charity event) until we just couldn’t fit anymore in our pockets. When there was no more room for candy, we hit the martini bar.

Late in the evening Awesome and I were watching the dance floor from the second level, armed with the courage of five martinis and a sugar high from all the candy I turned to him and said “you know, I really like hanging out with you and I am enjoying making out with you on occasion, but I don’t think we should have sex, again, ever.” “Umm, really? Why?” He asked, getting ready to find flaw in my argument. “Well” I began “We are really good friends, almost best friends, really. I think if we had sex, you would get weird and/or I would get weird and I am afraid that I would lose you and I don’t want that.” “Oh, yeah, you are right I would probably get weird. I do stuff like that.” And with that it was settled. So we made out for a bit to celebrate our new arrangement.

On Sunday the four of us met for Brunch, Beer and Boots. The pub was the first stop for some eggs and a crown float to start the day. Then off to the shoes store to look for some boots for the boys. I was very good and didn’t buy anything, mind you neither did the boys. After the failed shopping trip we left Awesome and GB, Roomie and I went to buy supplies for our dinner party – an Indian buffet feast. It was fantastic, 10 friends sitting around our living room enjoying lots of food, wine and good conversation. Everyone was out of the house by 10pm and the three of us did up all the dishes in under 30 minutes. Yeah team work!

It has been too long since I have had a weekend like this to report. It makes me happy to think things are getting back to normal around here. Events, parties, food, wine, martinis, boys, that, faithful readers, is how the single girl is suppose to be Keeping the Dream Alive.

Cheers Gang!

Saturday

Just a little slow this morning

The Lady is in town an last night she and I and GB and Roomie and Awesome went out for a few drinks. A few drinks turned into 4 pints and two shooters, then off to a party for wine then home for another beer each and an amaretto (yeah we really needed that).

This morning we are all moving pretty slow. I just served up Kraft Dinner to the Lady and GB and he took one bite and moaned "Oh ... this is good. "

Yeah it is one of those kind of days.

Who Knew?

Last night I forced myself to go to a work party even though I felt like I was going to vomit and looked like I was hit by a Mack truck. Roomie and GB were determined to show me a good time and at first I was not having any of it. I begrudgingly took my free beer and sat in the sunshine, sulked and spoke to no one for about 15 minutes. But, then, I was forced to get up and get my lawn bowling lesson. Yep, lawn bowling got me out of my funk. It is so much fun. It is like bocce ball and curling rolled into one. Roomie and I were on the same team and we played against GB’s team. We weren’t good but who cares we were having fun. I noticed at about 7pm that I was smiling and having a good time and I thought, well that was easy, apparently all I needed was a large activity where people can make asses of themselves.

After having our fill of free beer, food and lawn bowling our little gang headed of to the bar for some pints and dancing. GB and I hit the dance floor for a while, then Roomie and GB. At the end of the night we came home lit a fire in the back yard and mellowed out.

Today we are off to visit CMG’s new home and tomorrow a hike. GB and Roomie are so wonderful for taking care of me while I need a little hand holding. Thanks gang, I love both of you, and everyone who has called or emailed or messaged me or just sent warm thoughts. Friends (and random readers) make life’s bumpy road easier to traverse. So thanks everyone!

Thursday

Still Healing

I have been very busy for the past week hosting friends from back home, festivalling and partying.

Lots of funny stories to tell but unfortunately it might be another day or two until I get life, work and house back in order. So hold tight The Single Girl is coming back and has lots to share with all of you.

The Single Girl

Not a good sign

It is only Thursday and already I am losing my voice. When I woke up this morning and tried to talk to Roomie, nothing came out. It is a bit better now, but the plan is to start drinking at around 4pm today so I have a feeling that I won’t be able to speak tomorrow.

Don’t worry; I have never let illness get in the way of a good party, or more importantly a good party weekend.

My thoughts are with you, you poor working bastards.

Drinking with Awesome

I realize that it has been a while since I have chronicled any adventures with Mr. Awesome. You might think that he has disappeared from my life for good but let me assure you that he is alive and well and emailing me daily. Since taking an office job in the downtown core about five blocks from my office we have become very good friends. We email daily – even more than the lady and I do –, we go for lunch two or three times a week and we sometimes even talk on the phone on weekends. Not having sex has made us the best of friends.

All that being said it was still a bit of a surprise to me when he texted me on Friday to tell me to meet him at the beer garden for some serious drinking. I had the day off and thought, why not, I haven’t had a good drunk with Awesome in months and now is a good time as any to find out if I get drunk with Awesome and NOT fool around or have sex with him. I was still feeling blissful from my all night adventure with the SSM two nights earlier, and believed my will to be strong even in the face of many over priced watered down beer, so threw on a halter top and jeans and headed out the door.

By the time I got to the grounds there was a bit of a line up so I opted to get some pizza in me before tackling the line and the beer. The line ended up being about a half hour wait so I was glad I ate the pizza (really glad later in the evening). Once inside I grabbed two beer and found Awesome with a group of his friends all had been there about 1 ½ hours already. Awesome was fairly drunk and being hit on by his ex girlfriends boss. Actually I don’t think hitting describes what she was doing justice. He had a bite mark on his face from her, she was grinding him much of the evening and at some point I turned around and she was elbow deep in his pants. Sadly for her he really wasn’t that interested.

We partied in the gardens for about six of seven beers, watched the tribute bands, danced a little, he groped at me, his ex and his ex’s boss for fun, repeatedly told me how drunk he was and then we left for food and water. Home you say… nah! We went to Awesome’s Best Friend’s house for Martinis. After Five or Six drinks, some water and a few more partiers with us we headed to the dance bar.

There was a bit of a line at the dance bar so we were standing outside waiting for about ten minutes. At about minute five Awesome announced he was done for the night and walked off. His Bet buddy and I looked at each other shrugged and waited to get into the bar. Once there we hit the bar for a mixed drink, a vile shooter and some dancing. After about an hour on the dance floor we decided we needed a little sustenance so we grabbed a slice on the go and headed of to the pub to finish off the evening with one more shooter (which of course we all really needed) and a final pint of beer. At about 1:40 they were announcing last call and I realized I had already had mine and bid my farewell to ABF and found myself a cab. Actually it was one more slice of pizza to sop up the shooter and then a cab.

A great night of partying, beer, dancing, friends and no messy business with Awesome. This single girl feels as though she has turned some little corner of maturity with this night of binge drinking. Don’t you?

Surprisingly Satisfying

I deleted my online dating profile. I know it works for lots of people but between the troll and Mr. Online, I have to say I was not impressed with the experience. I didn’t like all the messages from weirdoes and creep-shows, creating and reading lame profile (yeah I am including mine in the lame category) and, well really the whole thing left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It really felt cleansing to get rid of it. So now it’s back to the old school style of dating for me – random men at random parties and bars where at least one of us has drank too much. Ugh.

Speaking of parties, The Single Girl has a bunch of great party invites for the weekend starting with a party in the woods this evening and ending with a fabulous dinner party on Sunday with GB. Oh yeah the SSM also gets home on Monday ;).

With all this activity I am sure there will be lots of stories for everyone when I am back.

Have a great weekend one and all.

The Back of the Bus

I have now hit the middle of my journey and I have to say I am already pretty tired. The first leg was a great conference and I got to stay with my BFF – yeah she now has a nickname – for three nights in a great hotel room. The days were filled with work and the nights were filled with networking (read; drinking).

On the last night of the conference we had the closing night party; dinner, drinks and lots of conversation and stories with people from across the county. At the end of the night a school bus has been arranged to transport the delegates from the party to the hotel. BFF and I were on the last bus and when we got on we were ushered to the back of the bus by our friends.

Once there someone started passing around a mickey of Sambuca. I of course could not resist and took a slug. Then I decided photographic evidence of the drinking was necessary so I gave my camera to the BFF and told her to take a picture – so I had another gulp. The bottle went around a few times and I am sure I had three or four shots before the bottle was finished. I had entirely forgotten how bumpy the back of a school bus is especially when you are trying to keep all your teeth while drinking out of a bottle.

After the bus ride we then piled out and 15 of us headed to the bar for a few more goodbye pints. I had three, and managed to break a martini glass while gesturing widely about something terrible important I am sure.

I finally left the bar at 1:30 (I think) and returned to my room to catch a measly five hours of sleep before commencing my long, long travel day. At note for all you readers out there, if you know you have to fly don’t go out and drink Sambuca the night before. It just makes for a very difficult day.

Must run, today I am getting my hair cut, seeing family, then Fireboy and OQB!

The long weekend Part II – I Don’t Know How We Do It

After our morning beer GB and I hit the road around noon, stopping at a discount store for some cheap bathing suits so we could enjoy the hot tub at the hotel. That’s right after roughing it in the woods and the rain for one night we were on our way to a hotel to enjoy a long hot shower and a hot tub and pool before heading to a 30th birthday bash.

You may not know this about me but I am a bit of an evil genius. The party we were attending that evening was at the same complex as the work event I had to attend Friday night. When I was asked to help host our big supporter I said that I would in exchange for a room on the Sunday night instead of on the Friday night – as I had a friend I could crash with that night. Enough about my cunning, back to the story.

The drive was uneventful and we arrived at the hotel around 4pm. After a twenty minute shower and a quick check of the email GB and I settled in for an afternoon beer and a Simpsons episode. About fifteen minutes into the show I drifted off to sleep. Hey, even a hardcore party girl needs a cat nap every once in a while. An hour later I came to, a little groggy and GB let me know that it was time for the next party. As we walked to the pub I turned to GB and said “Truly I don’t know how we do it.” “Do what?” he asked. “All of this” I said as I gestured around us. “I know” he responded with a giggle. “Discipline … a lot of discipline and beer.” Then we enter to the pub for some great drinks and chats with old friends and new.

Around 11pm the pub was shutting down so we decided to move the party to a place we could all bring cocktails and drink for cheaper. We paid our tabs left the bar and wandered back to the complex. We sat around and enjoyed some more wine, music on the ipod and gentle conversation. I really thought I would be tired and toddle off to bed early, but no, the last time I looked at my watch it was 1:45am. Oy, now it is time for bed. The next morning, GB and I got up, donned out new cheapo bathing suits and had a great dip in the hot tub, where we again wondered how it is we these lives and then we packed up for the third time in three days and headed for home.

The adventure for the single girl does not end here. After arriving home, unpacking, feeding the dog and trying to nap I headed off to see the SSM for dinner. See, following the incident on Friday afternoon he messaged me and told m that he wanted to make me dinner to make up for everything. I Armed myself with a bottle of wine I headed off to his apartment not sure what to expect, or even sure what I was thinking going to his place at all. I was completely exhausted, a little hung over from the entire weekend and I’m not even sure I like him. I wonder what he will cook? Oh well, I was already half way there at that point. Too late to turn back now.

The evening was … well … really good. I had a bit of a panic attack and started to feel suffocated when I found myself back on couch with him after dinner. I quietly worked through my fears in my head and soldiered forward. I think you can fill in the blanks of where it all went once I calmed down and just enjoyed myself … At the end of our evening he wanted to cuddle and I think he was about to invite me to stay the night, but I stopped him and let him know I needed to go home. I wanted my own bed (he like many others has a bad bed), to be home for work in the morning and I needed a little space to myself. So I jumped up, called a cab and said my goodbye. As I made my way toward the door he once again planted a knee buckling kiss on me, pulled back, smiled and said, “You’d better go, or you are going to miss your cab.” “Right” I whispered as I walked out the door into the night and finally, to my home.

The Long Weekend Part I – Here Comes the Rain Again.

To continue the story of the weekend … After getting towed and attending a work event on Friday I drove back to the city Saturday afternoon, dropped off the rental car and hopped in Roomie’s car with GB to head off in to the sunset for a party in the woods.

We headed out of the city after grabbing some groceries, beer and a rental tent. It was a scenic drive with periodic rain throughout. Each time we came upon the rain I thought to myself well if it is raining here it won’t rain at the party. After three hours in the car we arrived in the middle of the woods, surrounded by water, mountains and clouds. We quickly picked a spot to set up and put up our tent hoping to beat the rain. Within seconds of getting our tent erected the rain began. We were now stuck in the woods in the rain with little more than beer, DJs, two hundred strangers and a large fire.

We made the best of the early evening by drinking beer and hanging out under the various tarps around the dance area. Around 10pm we made the executive decision to get “messy” for the evening and went back to the car to enjoy some extra curricular activities. Fill in the blank as you see fix … just know we each had our own good time.

Not long after 10 the rain dies down and the dancing picked up. We moved from the dance floor to the fire, to the car and back again. At midnight we were treated to a fire show put on by Roomie and some other women. It was beautiful and Roomie looked totally hot spinning fire.

We continued to people watch and dance by the fire until GB decided he was done for the day at around 2:30am. I stuck it out a little longer but by 4am I was ready to hit my sleeping bag. I haven’t slept in a tent since I was about 18, as such I was a bit nervous about how will I would be able to sleep. Much to my surprise when I lied down in my sleeping bag with the bass gently thumping in the background, I drifted off just as I would in my 1200 coil, pillow top mattress.

We woke up around 9:30 and the bass was still thriving off in the distance. We hummed and hawed about what to for a bit but soon emerged from the tent to have some breakfast and a coffee. Once satisfied we grabbed a beer and headed back to the fire to see who was still up, or arriving again for the second day of partying. Roomie was up fresh from a short nap and joined us for a morning beer around the fire as the sun shone over the mountains. The beer was amazingly tasty – as only a morning camping beer can be – but it was time to pack up and hit the road again, as we had another party in another town to go to. So we packed up the tent, all our gear, said our goodbyes and hit the road for our next adventure.

The New Routine

For the past few weeks I have had a new weekend routine; Friday night go to a bar drink copious amounts of drafts with a large group of people, sing and/or dance, make questionable decisions about/with boys, go home holding hands with a boy. Wake up early Saturday morning because between the dog and the hang over I can no longer sleep, drink three coffees without much breakfast, work (either yard work or paid work), spend from 3pm – 6pm extremely nauseous – therefore skipping lunch - from both the beer and the questionable boy decisions then go to pub and drink three Guinness and have pub food with GB and call it a night before midnight. Sunday wake up, work out, do some housecleaning, work on a blog entry that I don’t post, surf the internet, have dinner and wine with the roomies and go to bed.

I am pretty sure this isn’t a healthy routine and I am hoping that this weekend I can break the cycle. I do have a party Friday night and the roomies and I have more work to do on Saturday but the party is a house party there will be no draft which I think will help with both the questionable boy decisions and the hangover. I am also going to try and refrain from going to the pub for three Guinness on Saturday, but I just got my tax return so it will be tough not to go out and celebrate.

I have also managed to go three days without so much as a drop of booze, which is quite a feat considering GB brought home a case of wine on Monday night. I am fully determined to make it to Friday without the devil’s liquid … his beautiful, beautiful liquid.

Happy Hump Day!

Monday

And you did this because …

Friday night I went to a club to go dancing as our current batch of interns had their last day. We arrived early and we were able to grab a table for our group which was great for the non dancers. I, however, enjoy dancing and it has been weeks since I have had a good night of dancing so I hit the dance floor pretty early. Me and a few of the girls danced for about 30 minutes to house music leaving the rest of the gang to hold down the table.

When I returned to the table someone new had joined our table. As I approached I had to do a double take because I just couldn’t believe my eyes. “Is that …?” I said as I leaned over GB. “yep, that would be the bartender” he replied. “I think I need another beer” “It’s probably best.”

So I went to the bar and got myself another drink and wondered how I should play this. I couldn’t really start flipping tables and freaking out, that would just be weird. I could ignore him for a bit but at some point I would have to acknowledge his existence or I would seem very strange. I continued to play out scenarios in my head as I went back to the table.

I opted to ignore him and just talk to everyone else for a while until he saw and exclaimed “TSG! Hi I didn’t know you were here. How are you?” I was a bit shocked but decided that calling him out at a large table when he was really drunk, and I was somewhat drunk wasn’t going to do anyone any good. Instead, we hit the dance floor. After about twenty minutes it was just he and I on the dance floor (from my friends I mean) and we danced for about an hour. Then he bought me a drink, then more dancing.

At the end of the night there were three of us left in the group, one of the departing interns, the bartender and myself. I would like to tell you all that I told him where to go for screening my calls or I left without so much as a goodbye but no after four pints that is not my style sadly.

As we waited for the intern I kissed him on the cheek and then he turned to me and kissed me on the lips. What are you doing my conscious screamed, but the single girl ignored the voice of reason and just smiled sweetly at the putz in front of her. We left the club soon after and all shared a cab to my neighbourhood and then we all stood by the bus stop and chatted for a minute. I wish I could say we made a date or told him he was a weird jerk for not calling or something interesting happened, but no I got out of the cab invited the boys to come for a night cap (I know … I should know better) and ended up home alone. So once again I feel dissed by the bartender.

It wouldn’t be so bad if wasn’t interviewing him for a job this morning.

Sometimes being this single girl isn’t as glamorous or as winning as I would like it to be.

Stay tuned,

Saturday

I might have spoken too soon ...

I am sitting in front of my screen at 6pm on Saturday wondering how it is that I find myself to be this hung over. What happened you ask? Awesome happened …

A few weeks ago Awesome invited GB and I to a party that he was throwing for himself to celebrate a promotion. When the invite arrived (via Facebook - the greatest/worst thing ever) GB and I both responded that we might attend. On Monday while having drinks with Awesome he asked if I was coming to his party with big puppy dog eyes and told me of the crazy drunk fun that would ensue … how could we say no.

We arrived at the first bar and the gang was getting mobile to head to a karaoke bar. GB didn’t think much of this idea and wanted to stay at the first bar and join the gang later. I knew if we didn’t leave with the crowd we wouldn’t join them again so I convinced GB to come along. Along the way he repeatedly threatened to ditch me on the road with awesome. I managed to convince him to stay the course and walk in the rain and with the drunks he didn’t know with the promise of free beer. Because if there is one thing I have learned, drinking with Awesome is always an adventure. Don’t believe check this out, and this and oh yeah this one.

We finally arrived at the bar and sat down with the group which included Awesome’s best friend and his best work buddy (see stories above for reference). As soon as we sat down we noticed a large globe on the table that looked like an aluminum soccer ball with a tap on it. Then the glasses arrived. We were looking at five litres of draft served in a soccer ball. “Drink up” said Awesome’s best friend. And so it went, we would fill our glasses as often as we liked and people would continue to bring soccer balls to the table. After a while I thought it was time that I contributed to the fund so a bought a globe of beer. How much you ask? $35.00 for five litres of Stella Artois. It was magical.

Then the singing started. Our table was up no less than twenty times. Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Queen, Nirvana, The Beatles … you name it we sang it. It wasn’t magical like the cheap draft but it was something very special shared between 15 drunk people.

As the evening wore on it was becoming clear to me that if I was interested, Awesome could be mine for the evening. So I flirted with his best friend and best work buddy, because, well, why not! At the end of the evening – around 12:30 because I had to be at work this morning – I invited Awesome to come back to my home with GB and I. He looked at me skeptically and I let him know that I was fully aware of how drunk and incapably he currently was and I was inviting him over to sleep as we live much closer to the karaoke bar. He agreed with the logic and the three of us left our little piece of beer drinking and singing paradise.

We all pretty much pasted out right after walking through the door. My alarm went at around 7:00 this morning – that’s right, I went drinking when I knew I had to be up and ready to go out the door around 8:30 – and well … I broke my new year’s resolution.

Oh well.

I got up, got ready, had some vitamins and coffee then politely let Awesome know that my boss was coming to pick me up in about 20 minutes and I would really prefer it he wasn’t leaving as my boss was arriving. He concurred and headed off into the city in search of a Poweraid drink and his sobriety.

One more cup of coffee and some coverup and I was off to work with the boss and managed to hold it together for a 5 hour meeting on a Saturday morning, coffee in one hand and water in the other. After the meeting I asked another co-worker if he could tell that I was a little tired/a bit hungover and he said no I hid it well and really the rest of the staff was at a work event the night before so no one was 100%. Thanks mom and dad for the fabulous (or dangerous) genes that allow me to function after soccer balls of beer.

This experience has left me to wonder what is next. First their were fishbowls of vodka, then soccer balls of beer… can I look forward to … oh I am too hung to think of something witty … you fill in the blank and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Ladies Night

On Thursday I went out for a night of dancing and drinking. It all started out innocent enough we went for pre cocktails at a co-workers apartment and I brought the fixings for Flirtinis (the signature drink of my former home) and we all stat around and made small talk and had a few cocktails before heading out to dance.

Once at the bar we discovered that Thursday night has a drink special … triples for $9.00. So of course we all got one and hit the dance floor for a rocking good time. We met some boys who were more plastered than we were and they spent much of the evening flirting and dancing with all eight of us. One of the guys even tried to me, and then the next girl and then the next girl well all of us really.

At some point one of the girls bet me that I couldn’t get behind the bar. “Obiviously, ou don’t know me very well” I said and in under a minute I was behind the bar, drink in hand hugging the bartender and having my picture taken by one and all. After emerging from behind the bar one of the drunk boys bought me a liquid cocaine (Jagermeister and Goldschlager if you didn’t know) and then a mixed drink. I was halfway through the drink and I had to ask what it was. Rye and Ginger was the response … oh dear I thought if I can’t taste rye, I am in trouble. So I ordered another triple … for everyone.

The night continued with dancing and boys and so many pictures. Towards the end of the evening some poor drunk boy started chatting me up. He seemed nice at first but as he continued to talk it became obvious that he was drunk, and had low self esteem, a lethal combination.

“You’re so pretty, but a girl as beautiful as you will never like me. It’s okay if you don’t want to talk to me” he said. “Well I am not going to like you if you don’t like yourself” I replied. “I just want to by you drinks and hangout with you. I love your hair. Your beautiful.” “It’s a wig, and I have a drink. I have to go.”

At this point in the story I am sure my regular readers are wondering, where’s the part where you keep the dream alive? So far you have said no to one drunk man and run away from a limp fish … what gives?

Well at about 1am it was clear we had all had enough to drink so we headed to the coat check to get our coats. As I was waiting in line for the coat check I saw a cute boy out of the corner of my eye. He was blonde, blue eyed and no more than 22 (okay no more than 21 – shut up!) We locked eyes, then I had to look away to get my coat and when I looked back he was still looking so I walked up to him – now the order of events is a little fuzzy but all this happened – I said hi, he said hi, then we kissed for a minute, then I told him I was leaving and he shrugged and said that’s too bad and I left. It all felt a little silly, but a great way to end a fabulous evening with the ladies.

And I finally got the “snogging” I have been craving.

All the best

Life on the Road

Warning*** I am posting blind without spell check so please be kind.

What can I say about vacationing ... it is great, although I am hungover a fair amount.

The weekend was spent with Dad, the Lady and GB back in my hometown.

We arrived in town around 1pm on Saturday and were greeted with mimosas and homemade croissants - I love going home. GB and I then did the 50 cent tour of town before coming home and having a five course dinner with wine pairings. Mmm Mmm good. Then off to a party for one of my best friends.

It was great we walked in the door to her parents house and she was so surprised to see me she almost jumped out of her skin. I love making people happy. So we sat and drank with all the folks until the beer ran out at and then GB and I stumbled home for a little rest.

I had been saying all day Saturday that I was going to get up early and go to the gym for a run on Sunday, but somehow, after the bucket of beer and large amounts of wine it never quite happened - so there was much razzing from GB and The Lady. Instead I did get up and do all the dishes in the morning from the 5 course meal from the night before. Which in my humble opinion was better for everyone.

Then we had some brunch and GB and I went for a hike down by the river to cleanse our bodies a little from the night before. When we returned home around 3pm the best friend from the night before and her husband were at the house having a beer with the folks. So GB and I quickly grabbed a beer from the fridge and we all settled into a perfect Sunday afternoon at home -beer, good stories, torte and shooters! That's right folks spending a Sunday the the parents of the Single Girl includes a round (or in this case two) of shooters. As GB noted the next day, two shots of Zambooka in the middle of your drinking are a real pick me up, so we continued drinking until the beer ran out (bit of a theme there) sometime after dark.

After two solid days of drinking yesterday was a much more measured day for the single girl. Tonight ... well it may not be so calm as I am seeing, GB, Fireboy and OQB ... it could be an adventure.

Kisses to all.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker make me a match

By Friday night GB was tired of watching me and the BoMD flirt and flirt, but not do anything about it. So while I was working he took it upon himself to talk to him. “So I think there is a certain Single Girl who has a crush on a certain bar tender. Now, she would never say anything to me, but seriously, BoMD are you going to do something about that?” The BoMD grinned slyly but didn’t say much. He closed his little bar and then joined he and GB us at the pub.

GB found a quiet moment not long after they arrived and told me what he had done. I was a little unimpressed, but GB was unbelievably pleased with himself and said, “My god someone had to do something.” I shrugged in conceit and continued with my socializing. I kept noticing the BoMD eyeing me from across the bar and after a short period of time he made his way next to me and chatting and sometimes rubbing my back when he spoke to me. Then we found a table and sat down and chatted for an hour I got up for a minute and when I came back he was sitting with some of his friends. Oh well, it was only Friday night I still had time to make my move.

Saturday was an unbelievably long day for everyone. My day was split into meetings and events and GB and the BoMD worked solid from noon until around midnight. Even with all that work we still managed to get to the pub and drink like it was the end of the world. And while drinking and socializing with all my friends and co-workers I made my way to the BoMD and plans to go out. I asked out and we are going on Thursday night to see a show together. We have each others numbers now and I am going to call him tomorrow to finalize our plan. Yeah, I finally did it (somewhat thanks to GB).

The rest of the weekend holds a few more stories, but Jenn you were correct, I am recovering so you will have to wait for the rest of stories for another day.

Goodnight Lovelies

Friday

Is that responsibility looming in the horizon?

Last night the unthinkable happened … I did the responsible thing and went home after two beers. There have been numerous occasions in my life where I have thought, I really should go home and I always order another beer, and usually I bring someone down with me so that I will not be the only one feeling awful the next day. But last night I actual said in the middle of what was becoming a booming party at the bar, “no, really I need to go home so I can’t have another drink.”

I hope it is just a blip and not a sign of things to come.

Tonight I am determined to ask out the BoMD! I have a great outfit for the evening and since I am not hungover I am feeling alert, confident and ready to take on the world!

… well maybe I don’t feel that great today, but you get the idea …

The Single Girl

Wednesday

As I said yesterday, I never rains it pours

Last night my plan was to hang with GB and the bartender of my dreams and potentially, ask the boy out. At 5pm that all changed with a surprise phone call from Fireboy telling me that he was in town for the day and would love to see me if I had a moment.

I immediately ditched work, met with Fireboy and his buddy and we went to a pub for some pizza, beer and to find out how/why the hell he was in twon. We were joined by some uber-geeks that couldn’t stop talking about the internet, the fury community and the geek pyramid (I can’t believe I just went looking for that on the internet.)

After dinner and two pints we(Fireboy, his buddy and I) headed off to see GB and the bartender of my dreams(BoMD). On our way I had to tell Fireboy that as great as it is to see him, I am totally crushing on the BoMD so he needed to keep his hands to himself as long as we were in BoMD’s company. Fireboy, being the lovely gentleman that he is, agreed to be a hands off date for the evening and we wandered up to the bar.

No one else was there so the five of us started buying rounds for one another. Over the course of the evening everyone took their turn buying a drink for the crowd so by the time we left we all had 5 beers in us (plus the two I had at dinner). Needless to say we were all a little tipsy.

We left BoMD, well actually he had to go so we locked up and then, Fireboy’s buddy started holding my hand and showing interest in me and Fireboy started showing interest in GB. At this point we all realized we should go home as it was almost 1am and GB and I had to work in the morning and Fireboy had a 7am flight to catch. Fireboy and I did manage to find a few minutes to kiss and catch up before GB told us to get a room – ah if only we had the time. But we didn’t so we kissed a few more times goodbye, gave each other the okay to explore with our friends, should we want to in the future, and parted. GB and I into one cab and Fireboy and his buddy to another.

I still haven’t gotten up the nerve to ask out BoMD but I will soon, I hope. I did manage to time a trip to the bathroom just right so I ran into him in the hall but I chickened out and didn’t make a move. I also knew at that point I was a bit drunk and I kinda want to do this on the up and up and not involve the liquor as the catalyst. OOhh! But I did find out that he is 26, and likes to date older women. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Anyway, all in all a very surreal night, the kind of evening that leads to a blog like this.

Tired but still smiling at my desk.
